In a world filled with countless hotels and transient experiences, it takes something truly remarkable to inspire someone to put pen to paper – or fingers to keyboard – and craft a hotel review. Perhaps it’s the monotonous routine of describing the indistinguishable “wonderful” hotels, or maybe it’s the sheer rarity of discovering a place that transcends expectations. Regardless, our stay at the Hotel Residence Agnes in Prague has compelled me to share this remarkable experience.

A Prelude to European Holiday Delights
Our journey led us to Prague during a special time of year, as we abandoned Thanksgiving traditions in favor of exploring the magic of Christmas markets of Czechia and Germany. While domestic travel during this season could dent any budget, Europe tempts travelers with a lingering and cost-effective shoulder season. With the children enjoying a week off school, we deemed it the perfect moment to initiate them into the world of international travel and to ignite the holiday spirit.
Our original plan entailed visiting Nuremberg first and then Prague for a few days. However, uncertain of how our girls would cope with the long travel day, we opted to pause for a night in Prague. Little did we know that the young travelers would master the art of long-haul flights with grace and ease. By noon, we found ourselves at the doorstep of our hotel, nestled near Old Town, a mere 25-minute journey from the airport, effortlessly accessible by a budget-friendly Uber ride.

A Warm Welcome at Hotel Residence Agnes, Prague
As we crossed the Vltava River and ventured along the charming yet uneven cobblestone streets, we were greeted by the Hotel Residence Agnes Praha (Prague), adorned in a delightful shade of pink. Stepping inside, a young lady promptly ushered us to a table set with light refreshments. She extended a selection of beverages as a gentleman collected our luggage. It was a welcome respite as we were all feeling parched, and I yearned for a caffeine boost. Moments later, she returned bearing a platter laden with homemade pastries, accompanied by two much-needed espressos and water for all.
After crossing the river and winding along a few of those beautiful but bumpy old cobblestone streets, we found ourselves in front of the charming pink facade of the Hotel Residence Agnes Prague. Stepping inside, a young lady quickly ushers us to a table set with light snacks. She offers drinks as a gentleman collects our baggage. I was grateful because we were all feeling parched, and I was in desperate need of a strong caffeine boost! A few moments later, she returned with a plate full of home-made pastries along with two much needed espressos and water for all.
With check-in formalities complete and a moment to unwind, we finally retired to our room. The young lady assisting us kindly insisted we return later for a complementary refreshment. Wine, beer, soda, water, and coffee flowed freely, here at Hotel Residence Agnes.

Cozy Rooms with Abundant Space
Already, the unexpectedly warm reception had me reevaluating our choice of accommodations for our subsequent stay in Prague. We were poised to board a train to Nuremberg the following morning, where we’d immerse ourselves in the enchanting German Christmas markets for five days. Upon our return to Prague for another four days, we had selected an alternative boutique hotel on the opposite bank of the Vltava River, anticipating that the room at Hotel Residence Agnes might be too compact.
To our delight, our room exceeded expectations. European hotel rooms, especially those in boutique establishments, often… snug. We chose the largest room available at the time which included a King size bed and a double pull out sofa. Typically, I don’t like to book pull-outs because they tend to be ridiculously small and uncomfortable. However, this one was a pleasant surprise, resembling the proportions of a king-sized bed. The staff had thoughtfully prepared it with pillows and blankets prior to our arrival.
Complimentary Upgrades: A Pleasant Surprise
The next gesture from the hotel staff took us by surprise. In the midst of savoring our newfound affection for this beautiful boutique hotel, they elevated our experience further with an unexpected and complimentary upgrade. As we were departing for Old Town, a mere ten-minute stroll away, the receptionist and her manager intercepted us, extending an upgrade offer.
Anticipating a larger room or perhaps a suite, we were astounded when they presented us with an entire additional room at no extra cost. This additional space, conveniently located next door to our current room, allowed our daughters a taste of independence. We had neither requested nor disclosed my identity as a travel writer, rendering this a genuinely unexpected treat.

It May be a Small Boutique Hotel, but the Breakfast is Big
By now, our growing admiration for the Hotel Residence Agnes was no secret. As we descended to enjoy breakfast, we were met with one of the most impressive breakfast spreads I’ve seen in my travels, particularly for a boutique hotel.
The breakfast buffet included freshly baked pastries and a delightful array of baked goods, flanked by a cornucopia of fruits and platters laden with cheese and charcuterie. Traditional breakfast staples like cereal and yogurt were complemented by hearty hot dishes, including eggs and meats. It’s worth mentioning that breakfast is thoughtfully included with every stay at Residence Agnes
